Our children were both taken out of school at the end of 2005. We have never looked back – it has been far better for them being taught at home. We only wish that we knew about HomeSchooling earlier so we could have taken them out of school years before.
However bad things may get regarding your child/ren's situation at school, and even though it is a parent's right to educate our child/ren at home, you (like us) will probably never be told about being able to HomeSchool your child/ren by the authorities.
Yes, we shouldn't have to take the enormous and sacrificial step of taking our child/ren out of school – but, saying that, what choice is there, if our child/ren is to be happy, fulfilled and truly achieving their potential when, at school, they may be becoming very unhappy even leading to potentially mental instability with low self esteem in themselves or their abilities and not achieving their potential because of slight extra needs not being addressed well enough, or when they are bored, unstimulated (and have been for years) and 'too clever' to be taught anything particularly new at school?
Our children love it at home and are very happy – getting educated (often learning things they are interested in and want to learn about, rather than just what the Government says their age group are to learn), learning at their own (low or high) level and at their own speed (as opposed to seemingly anything but), with the correct care, love and support that each one needs.
It is a hard life for the parent doing the schooling, but it is also a very, very rewarding and satisfying life - for all sorts of reasons.
I believe that more and more parents are taking their child/ren out of school these days, to educate them at home.
You do not need to be a teacher to do this, nor do you have to follow the National Curriculum.
There are many HomeSchooling groups spread around Britain, so you need not be on your own and your child/ren can have the social opportunities you will no doubt want for them.
